From Laang to New York City

We caught up with Rachel Bastow at her New York City wellness studio. Bastow has a very unique story. From Laang Australia, Bastow went abroad like many Australians. While traveling, Bastow got a colonic. Little did she know then that she would have a studio in the Big Apple helping people from all walks of life.

UK Band Makes Spash Down Under

Johnny Borrell, Razorlight Sydney

When we got in the office today, we saw this picture of JohnnyBorrell of Razlorlight. The UK band performed yesterday at The Metro in Sydney. In recent memory, Borrell has had a lot of guff from the press as he has been profiled to be arrogant. However, those who support him say that he is a great guy and the media just gives him a hard time. We are not commenting either way.

David Campbell Exclusive Interview

David Campbell At New York’s Carnegie Hall

We had the chance to catch up with David Campbell while he was in New York this week. While recently in Australia, we heard Campbell all the time on the “Hot Tomato” on the Gold Coast, so it was great to finally meet him in person, even if it was in New York.

Campbell was in New York participating in the one night only “Australia Plays Broadway” event with fellow Australian icons Olivia Newton-John as well as Simon Burke who hosted the event. Amanda Harrison also made an appearance. Harrison is currently playing in the Australian version of WICKED.

Campbell has had three platinum albums in Australia in the last three years and his most recent song just made it in the top ten in the Australian charts.

Finally, A Great Australian Film

Australia the Movie

By: Souleo

When I first saw this picture I thought oh great, looks like Nicole Kidman or Hugh Jackman have gone and pulled a Madonna/Angelina Jolie and adopted some poor child, with the plan to give him the true love that only Hollywood parents can provide.

But upon further investigation it turns out the two are posing with actor Brandon Walters for a photocall ahead of the world premiere of “Australia” at the Museum of Contemporary Art yesterday in Sydney.

Sorry Brandon.

At the official premiere of one of this season’s most talked about films, numerous stars came out.  Among them was tabloid favorite Ruby Rose who worked a sexy pair of gloves.  No word yet on whether she was caught making out with some random female like usual, but we’re pretty sure she did.

Entertainer Maria Venuti showed up in a dangerously low cut dress that miraculously managed to deflect attention from the catastrophe that is her make-up.  This is what Americans call a “hot mess.”

Media Personality and sister of Nicole, Antonia Kidman, and her daughter Lucia Kidman also came out to support.  A special thanks to Antonia for reminding us what Nicole might resemble without all of her Botox injections.  She’s the closest thing to looking like a human version of Nicole Kidman since well, Nicole Kidman.

Ben Cousins Returns to Football

AFL Star Back on Field

By: Souleo

Ben Cousins has had a rough couple of years battling his drug addiction but the AFL has finally agreed to let him return to playing football.  The only catch is that the AFL is imposing some mighty tough restrictions on Ben.  According to The Australian in order for Ben to play he will have to undergo as many as three urine tests a week, regular hair testing and immediate suspension for failing to even sit a test.  That’s a total of 160 tests per year, a number no other athlete in the world has to deal with.  The cost to the AFL for all of this is about $100,000 a week.

We know he’s good but is he really worth that much just for tests?!

Of course Ben is not pleased with any of this after calling the rules “onerous.”  We kind of agree with him and have decided to give him some tips on how to rebel against the excessive testing.

Urine Tests:  Bring a small can of apple juice and fill ‘er up with that.  No one will ever be able to tell the difference.

Hair Tests:  Pull a Britney Spears and shave it all off.  You probably won’t get as much press for it since you’re a dude unless you make it all the more dramatic and start attacking cars with umbrellas and crying for apparently no reason.  On second thought the latter might backfire.

Stay off drugs:  This is the only way we know to really beat the system.

Good luck to you, Ben.

Celebrity Sightings at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards

myleene klass mio pu anna and jack

By Souleo

Celebrities came out in support of the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.  The annual awards ceremony was held at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

When we first saw this picture of rising actress Miao Pu we didn’t know what to think.  From afar she looks like Big Bird and up close, yup, still Big Bird.  Thanks to “Sesame Street” big, fluffy, pretty yellow dresses are cursed foreverrrrrrrr!

CNN Presenter Myleene Klass was there and she looked quite boring.  Okay, well not boring but we miss the days when she would stroll around in bikinis on “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me out of Here.”  Forget class, someone needs to put this woman back on a trashy reality show and let her cavort around half naked!

Anna Bligh, QLD Premier was also on the scene as she posed with screen legend Jack Thompson.  Earlier in her career Anna used to protest against Playboy Magazine.  I wonder if hanging out Jack-the first nude male centerfold for Cleo Magazine back in 1972-has made her loosen up a bit.  Lord we hope so!

Speaking of Jack, at 68 years old he is looking pretty good and we think it’s time for him to pose nude once more.

Unfortunately the magazine doesn’t show any frontal nudity but a little bit of Jack just may go a long way (wink-wink).

But really, isn’t it time for an old man to publicly embrace his body and sexuality?  If Sophia Loren can still sex it up at 74, then perhaps Jack can get away with revealing a little crack.

Oprah Says “Australia” Is Great

By: Souleo

Let’s face it whatever U.S. talk show queen Oprah says goes. She said the U.S. would elect its first African-American President in 2008 and now they have Barack Obama. So we can only imagine the wonders her endorsement of Baz Luhrman’s soon-to-be-released film “Australia,” will do.

On Monday’s special edition of her show dedicated to Australia and our stars, Oprah invited Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, and Baz to promote their new film.

To prove just how dedicated Oprah is to Australia she even had a specially constructed replica 1930’s outback cattle station where the epic film is set. Lord, this woman has too much money!

But don’t worry if you missed the show. It was basically Oprah standing high up on a cloud, surrounded by buff men fanning her, as she looked down at unworthy earthlings, and gushed and cried over this new amazing film. She then summoned dark clouds and thunder as she demanded that we all see it or else lighting would strike us down.

The film is due to premiere in Sydney next Tuesday so if you don’t want Oprah to come down from her mansion in Heaven and reprimand you, go see it!

Baby Bump
By: Souleo

Stars came out on November 6th in support of Crown Oaks Day as part of the 2008 Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington Race Course in Melbourne, Australia. Those in attendance included former Miss Universe Jennifer Hawkins, rapper Snoop Dogg, Maria Venutti, Swedish singer September aka Petra, Simone Warne, Tiffany Angel, actress Kimberley Davies, and many more. Davies was there glowing with her baby bump and her husband Jason Harvey.

Earlier this year it was reported that Jason cheated on Kimberly about 3 years ago.  From the looks of this pic the two seem to be working everything out.

Looks like the family that gets knocked up together really does stay together!

09 Sydney Festival Launch Party

Sydney Festival Launch Party

By: Souleo

Some of Australia’s biggest names came out for the official launch party for the Sydney Festival 2009 at the Sydney Theatre company.  Those in attendance included: Andrew Upton, The Hon. Nathan Reese, Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore, Claire Stewart, actress Sasha Horler, and more.

But those names almost pale in comparison next to the stars we can expect once the festival kicks off.  The three week festival (January 10th-31st) will include performances by legendary diva Grace Jones, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Cat Empire, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Fanfare Ciocarlia and Santogold.

On First Night there will be a street dance party where those present are expected to perform a 30-second dance, choreographed by Australian Dance Theatre artistic director Garry Stewart.

Let’s just hope he keeps it simple for the sake of everyone’s pride.

Among the theatre highlights will be the Sydney Theatre Company production of The War of the Roses, starring Cate Blanchett and Robert Menzies.

The show lasts 7 hours!  With a running time that long I hope the seats convert into toilets that way no one has to worry about missing a thing.

Def Leppard Returns to OZ After 16 Years

Lep 1

By:  Souleo

For the first time since 1992, the legendary rock band Def Leppard returned to Australia and performed at Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia.  Of course they played all of their hits, “Rocket,” “Photograph,” “Let’s Get Rocked,” and the classic “Pour Some Sugar on Me.”I don’t know about you but anytime I hear that last song I feel naughty and picture scandalous strippers, bathed in honey, with strawberries, and grinding…uhm, yeah, you get the idea.

I hear Def Leppard rocked the house.  Hopefully we won’t have to wait another 12 years for more.
